Greetings and welcome to My obscure Twilight Theatre of dark cinema. If you find some of the motion pictures that I craft disturbing, you will not be the first and are likely what mainstream society deems "normal". Although I beg to differ, as I disagree there is any such thing. After all, what or whom do we gauge this standard by?
I am an artist of sorts, taking great pleasure in producing independent films and talk-u-mentaries, having an insatiable appetite for creating Black Comedy movies in particular. Some might consider them to be low-budget B movies or seared with bad taste even... and frankly, I do too. After all, they are based on life, perhaps even your life! As I snicker, I confess that I appreciate delving into the dark side of human nature, both truthful and harsh, lacing it with caustic humour. Fore laughter is the sweetest antidote for those inflicted with mental anguish and suffering.
Cinema photography is an art form and I especially enjoy silent films, which illustrate just how much communication in life is non-verbal. We constantly communicate with one another through gestures, eye contact - or lack of - and body language. I find body language to often be more revealing than words… and usually a hell of a lot more truthful.
If My indie mini movie productions leave you feeling a bit off tilt at times, I will consider it a compliment to the highest degree. I cannot help but feel that the twisted deviant of cinema, Master filmmaker John Waters, has likely felt the same in regards to the reception of his controversial style of film making. He has been quite courageous in challenging the mass sheep and worshippers of political correctness.
I am an Actress, starring in My own picture shows, writing, directing, producing and editing them as well. I especially enjoy audio mixing, creating graphics and applying special effects for visual impact. I realize My films push the envelope and are not always received with grace by mainstreamers. I enjoy all aspects of the performing arts including improvisational hypnotic dance as well as choreographed dances. I suppose this would make Me what is called a “triple threat”.
Regardless of which art I am performing My wish is to create dramatic performances leaving you inspired at times, a bit uneasy at others, laughing out loud on occasion and perhaps even provoke a few other raw feelings that I’ve been known to conjure up… which may or may not be welcome.
As a young child My father told Me that to be perpetually politically correct made it impossible to be honest. I especially enjoy poking fun at stereotypes, not finding them offensive at all, but rather find them to be blatantly truthful on some level. Perhaps some stereotypes are more of a residual hang-over from days gone by, no longer as prominent as they once were.
However, a stereotype does not typically cast a behavior unjustly onto others, but rather shines the light on an existing behavior that is already being exhibited. What makes most stereotypes humorous is that they happen to be true. Otherwise nobody would be laughing. When it comes to those who are most offended by such jokes, it is that they tend to know that we are essentially talking about them. Pardon us for noticing.
Now we've all had a situation where we heard an off color joke, perhaps a bit unsettling even, but all the same struck us as quite funny. Then afterward came that uncomfortable sensation, plaguing us with a tinge of guilt as it creeped in, as if it were shameful to find it hilarious.
Shame and guilt tend to be imposed onto us by cultural expectations that deny our Shadow Self, often seared with patriarchal puritanical dogmatic religious programming, reminding us that we're all going to hell. The Devil has kept the church in business all these years and seems to be the church’s closet ally in that respect.
My video productions have been a journey of exploration of our Shadow Self as a collective whole. We all possess a dark side, although I do not deny mine and find it very intriguing, indeed. It’s been said that I am going to hell, but you know what, honey? I’ll be sure to save you a seat at the bar…
Now sit for a spell. Cast aside your veil of hypocrisy. Join Me on a journey of self discovery into the nocturne depths of the human soul. Embrace your Shadow Self.
SINcerely Shameless,
Madame Lady Vamp
